Why do we recommend starting with samples?
Most artists who work with us start here, regardless of their previous experience.
Fine art & giclée samples allow you to:
- See how your image behaves across different fine art papers;
- Compare texture, whites, contrast, and the sense of depth;
- Assess whether a paper is better suited to photography, illustration, or drawing;
- Make informed decisions, without haste or uncertainty.
An image on a screen can never replace a physical print. Samples exist to eliminate (or at least reduce) this gap.
Decide with confidence before printing
Choosing the right paper is one of the most important decisions in fine art printing — and also one of the most challenging.
Pigmento’s printed samples exist precisely for this purpose: to allow you to see, compare, and decide based on real results before moving forward with an edition or final print.
At Pigmento, we do not simply show you papers — we print your own images, applying the same technical rigour that we use in any final work.

How does the ordering and production process for printed samples work…
1. Choose the sample set.
Select the base pack and, if you wish, add extra papers of your choice.
2. Wait for our response.
Once your order is complete, you will receive simple instructions for file submission and payment (€19.90 for the base pack, with VAT and shipping already included).
3. We produce the samples.
The images are prepared and printed with Pigmento’s usual rigour. Samples are 203×254 mm (8×11) in size.
4. Receive the samples at your address.

Each set of 4 samples costs €19.90 (shipping, packaging, and VAT included) and includes:
- Samples are 203×254 mm (8×11) in size.
- Prints made using your own images.
- Museum-quality fine art papers (Hahnemühle, Ilford, MediaJET, etc.).
- Printing with pigment-based inks, with rigorous colour control.
- A format designed for genuine evaluation and direct comparison.
The samples are produced with the same technical care applied to final orders; they are neither generic tests nor quick proofs.
The Pigmento base sample pack includes one print on mediaJET Museum Natural Smooth 310 g/m², one print on PC Velvet 270 g/m², and two prints on papers selected by you through a process tailored to your needs. Choose the paper for the 3rd and 4th samples in the form, following our guidelines.
Occasional stock shortages may occur. We will contact you if this happens. , before processing your order.
